Did you know there are many, many different kinds of Canyons? Most canyons are formed by rivers or streams that cut through the levels, or layers, of rock. This is called erosion. Canyons have steep cliffs for walls and a deep valley between. Most canyons have dangerous drop-offs. The Grand Canyon is in Grand Canyon National Park , Arizona. It is famous for it’s size, beautiful colored canyon walls, and the Colorado River that flows through it . Billions of years ago it was formed by the Colorado River that has eroded it over time. It is about 1 mile deep and extends 277 miles deep . Millions of people visit this National Park every day. The temperature is 25 degrees Fahrenheit warmer at the bottom than at the top. In conclusion Canyons are one of the great landforms in the world.
